University of Batangas ranks 2nd in the Scholastic Reader’s Cup Synergy Award

Reading is a skill of those who are committed to learn more, to succeed more, and to live more. This is a culture that University of Batangas wants to inculcate to its students, through the help of Scholastic Inc.

The Scholastic Readers Cup, is a saving grace as far as this matter is concerned. Scholastic, the world’s largest publisher of children’s books, is behind this inter-school competition that promotes books and reading. It has always been a way of returning the Scholastic Inc. the gratitude to their partner schools to recognize the top performing schools in the Annual Readers Cup. University of Batangas has always been awarded for the students having read 40 books each.

With an average of 106 and a total of 238, 895 books read in the Academic Year 2019-2020, the University of Batangas bagged 2nd place in the Synergy Award category of this year’s Scholastic Reader’s Cup last October 22, 2020. The said cup celebrates Scholastic’s Philippine partner schools’ in building communities of readers. Moreover, the UBBC Junior High School ranked 2nd place in the Diamond Category with an average of 128 and a total of 182, 075 books read. The award was given to those schools with 1,000 students and above. On the other hand, the UBLC Junior and Senior High School also ranked 2nd place in the Sapphire Category with an average of 148 books read; a total of 41, 984 books for Junior High School, and 14, 836 books for Senior High School. It was given to those schools with up to 300 students. University of Batangas will continue to celebrate the limitless power of reading to educate, to nourish souls and to transform lives. “Here is a world of endless possibilities that begins with reading. Here is a world of endless possibilities for our school and our students to become life-long learners that may start with their love for books. Here is a world of endless possibilities for our children to learn more, to succeed more, and to live more”, shared Mr. Jefferson Litan, UBLC Asst. Principal.

These awards were made possible with the support of the whole administration, Dr. Agerico B. Matira and Dr. Hilaria Guico, High School Principal of UBLC, and UBBC, respectively. Also, through the efforts of program implementers Mr. Jefferson Litan, UBLC Asst. Principal, Ms. Edrily Martija, Ms. Ronna Untalan, Mrs. Jeanelin Punzalan, UBBC English Department Head, and the rest of the advisers and teachers of both campuses of the University of Batangas High School Department.
