The University of Batangas (UB) Research and Publications Office (RPO) participated in a strategic meeting with the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) on May 28, 2025, aimed at integrating the university into a national network for space-enabled sustainability actions.
The meeting, documented by the UB RPO under Director Dr. Romell A. Ramos, introduced higher education institutions to the PhilSA Integrated Network for Space-Enabled Actions towards Sustainability (PINAS). This initiative directly supports UN Sustainable Development Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by enhancing global and multi-stakeholder partnerships.
During the event, PhilSA outlined the goals of the PINAS network, which include promoting the widespread use of space data and fostering research collaborations between the agency and universities. The meeting also highlighted specific PhilSA initiatives, such as CopPhil and DATOS, as key areas for cooperation.
For the University of Batangas RPO, the meeting underscored significant opportunities for capacity building, specialized training, and potential scholarships for faculty and students. A primary objective of the partnership is to encourage the integration of space science and technology applications into the university’s academic and research programs, focusing on sustainability-driven innovation.
