The University of Batangas (UB) continues to solidify its role as a premier hub for regional sports development as it officially hosts the volleyball and basketball tournaments for the Regional Athletic Association Meet (RAAM) 2026. This year’s hosting marks a significant milestone in the university’s commitment to providing world-class facilities for the youth of CALABARZON.
University President Lily Marlene J. Hernandez-Bohn and OIC Vice President for Student Affairs and Services Christopher V. Quizon personally greeted a high-level delegation from the Department of Education (DepEd) to signal the start of the prestigious games. The warm reception at the university grounds underscored the collaborative spirit between private academe and government education agencies in fostering athletic excellence.
The university leadership welcomed several distinguished guests who oversee the sports and legal frameworks of the region. The visiting delegation included: Atty. During the meeting, President Hernandez-Bohn reaffirmed UB’s dedication to maintaining safe, inclusive, and top-tier venues for the student-athletes. By offering its state-of-the-art courts and specialized sports infrastructure, the university ensures that the volleyball and basketball competitions meet the high standards required for regional qualifying events.
As the games commence, UB serves as more than just a venue provider; it acts as a catalyst for youth empowerment. The university’s involvement in RAAM 2026 allows student-athletes from across the provinces of CALABARZON to experience a professional sporting environment, encouraging them to pursue their athletic dreams while maintaining academic discipline.
UB integrates its role as a regional host into its wider support for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focusing on the transformative power of sport in society.
By facilitating a major regional athletic meet, the university directly promotes SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being. Hosting these tournaments encourages physical activity and mental resilience among the youth, combating sedentary lifestyles and fostering emotional growth through competition.
Furthermore, the partnership between UB and DepEd aligns with SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals. This collaboration demonstrates how private educational institutions and public government bodies can synchronize their resources to achieve shared objectives in youth development. Lastly, the university supports SDG 4: Quality Education by recognizing sports as a critical non-formal educational tool that teaches leadership, teamwork, and fair play values that are essential for the holistic development of every learner.
