Batangas City, September 25, 2025 – The University of Batangas (UB) College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) has formally strengthened its commitment to community engagement and social responsibility with the induction of six of its members into the Volunteers in Prison Service (VIPS). The official joining took place during the organization’s meeting on September 20, 2025.

The new VIPS members from UB CAS include two department heads and four faculty members. This collaboration signifies a vital partnership between the academic sector and VIPS, a civic-government initiative dedicated to providing holistic rehabilitation, education, and social reintegration programs for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL).

The university views this proactive involvement as a direct reflection of its institutional values, particularly its dedication to compassion, community involvement, and upholding social responsibility. By actively participating in VIPS, UB aims to extend its educational and social resources beyond the campus walls to serve one of the most vulnerable sectors of society.

This initiative is a tangible alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 17, which calls for “Partnership for the Goals.” The engagement fosters robust cooperation between the University of Batangas, a key academic institution, and a government-supported volunteer organization. Through the shared efforts of the faculty volunteers, the university intends to strengthen multi-sectoral partnerships that are critical for advancing social justice, increasing access to education, and improving the overall well-being of the PDLs, paving the way for more successful community reintegration.
