The University of Batangas (UB) College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) strengthened its commitment to health education and social awareness through HIV and AIDS Awareness Seminar held on May 3, 2025 at the Carmelo Q. Quizon Gymnasium.
The Association of Legal Management Majors (ALMM) organized the event in partnership with Wagayway Equality, a volunteer-driven community advocating for marginalized groups and one of the leading equality organizations in Batangas City.
Students from UB CAS and ALMM attended the seminar, which fostered meaningful dialogue and encouraged informed decision-making. Speakers clarified misconceptions about HIV and AIDS—particularly debunking the myth that HIV can be transmitted through casual contact—and emphasized the importance of understanding, empathy, and respect toward individuals living with the disease.
The organizers envisioned the seminar as a platform to replace fear and misinformation with knowledge and hope. By promoting openness and awareness, they encouraged students to lead conversations about HIV and AIDS within their communities.
The discussion highlighted education as a powerful catalyst for social change, showing that awareness goes beyond prevention—it also builds compassion and acceptance for those affected.
In line with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Well-Being, particularly Indicator 3.3.4 – Sexual and Reproductive Health-Care Services for Students, the seminar aimed to provide students with access to accurate information and education on sexual and reproductive health.
Through this initiative, UB CAS continued to empower students with the knowledge and empathy needed to create an informed, inclusive, and health-conscious community.
