The University of Batangas (UB) Admissions and Scholarships Office partnered with the Adaptive Technology for Rehabilitation, Integration, and Empowerment of the Visually Impaired (ATRIEV), PLDT Inc., and Smart Communications, Inc. to hold the Disability Sensitivity Workshop at the Center for Continuing Education and Lifelong Learning (CCELL) Training Room on July 29, 2025.

In line with National Disability Rights Week, UB administrators, educators, and students immersed themselves in hands-on training designed to build disability sensitivity awareness and promote an inclusive approach to persons with disabilities (PWDs).

The training featured interactive simulations and discussions that encouraged participants to see from the perspective of PWDs, emphasizing the importance of accessible infrastructure and digital tools.

“As educators, we are always learning,” noted Dr. Ramil Marquez, a faculty member from the UB College of Education Department, on the importance of building sensitivity toward PWDs. He added that compassion grows when people open their eyes to the realities of others. “The next step is to share our learnings with the rest of the UB population.”

By the end of the workshop, the participants committed to serving as effective allies and advocates, promoting the rights, dignity, and inclusion of PWDs in pursuit of United Nations’ (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Quality Education (SDG 4) and reduced inequalities (SDG 10).
