The University of Batangas (UB) proudly claimed First Runner-Up in the Float Parade Competition during the 36th Sublian Festival and 56th Batangas City Foundation Anniversary held on July 23, 2025.
UB’s float was a vibrant and symbolic tribute to the heritage of Batangas, thoughtfully integrating cultural elements that reflect the city’s identity. Featured on the float were the official logos of Batangas City, the Sublian Festival, and UB—each representing a pillar of local pride.
The centerpiece included the banga, a traditional clay jar historically used for making fermented fish or shrimp paste, symbolizing the resilience, simplicity, and hardworking spirit of the Batangueño people. Alongside it were elements like the sombrero, representing the folk devotional dance. “Subli”, as well as images of Subli dancers and the Sto. Niño ng Batangan, an iconic representation of Christ as a child.
The float also highlighted the province’s local products, including pakaskas, panutsa, kape, and butil, along with items like the salakab (fish trap) and lambat (fishing net), which symbolize Batangas’ agricultural and fishing livelihood. The inclusion of the bayong represents the region’s continued prosperity in tourism and sustainable development, while the colorful banderitas adorned the float to echo the festive spirit of traditional Filipino celebrations.
The Sublian Festival is a heartfelt tribute to Batangas City’s rich cultural heritage. UB’s participation in the event underscores the UBian community’s strong commitment to honoring and preserving local traditions. As a key contributor to the province’s cultural landscape, the University of Batangas continues to play a vital role in promoting community pride, unity, and cultural appreciation.
On the same day, the UB was declared as the 1st Runner-Up with a trophy and a cash prize at Batangas City Sports Center – Coliseum.
