The University of Batangas (UB) undergraduate team emerged victorious, clinching the prestigious Award for Best Structural Design & Innovation at the 2024 Introducing and Demonstrating Earthquake Engineering Research in Schools (IDEERS) competition. The event took place on September 20-21, 2024, at the National Center for Research in Earthquake Engineering (NCREE) in Taipei, Taiwan.
This year’s IDEERS competition, which attracted 44 teams from across the globe, saw the UB team showcase their remarkable engineering skills and innovative thinking. The event is a joint initiative by NCREE, National Applied Research Laboratories (NARLabs), and the British Council (BC), aimed at inspiring young engineers to explore earthquake-resistant building designs and contribute to future earthquake engineering advancements.
The UB team was composed of four talented students from the Civil Engineering Department:
- Jhoaquin Antonio Sanvictores
- Jose Rafhael Rosales
- Beyonce Studdamore Villena
- Mark Joseph Delizo
Their exceptional structural design and forward-thinking approach earned them top recognition in a highly competitive field. Competing teams were tasked with designing and building structures capable of withstanding simulated earthquake conditions, pushing the boundaries of practical and innovative engineering.
The university community is immensely proud of their achievement, which not only reflects their dedication and expertise but also highlights the quality of education and training provided by the Civil Engineering program at the University of Batangas. This recognition further cements UB’s commitment to fostering excellence and innovation in the field of engineering.
Congratulations to the team for bringing honor to the university on an international stage!
