In an ongoing commitment to campus safety and disaster readiness, the University of Batangas – Lipa City (UBLC) recently held a comprehensive fire and earthquake drill and seminar for all faculty and employees. This event, headed by the Security and Safety Office with the help of the Lipa City BFP was designed to equip the UBLC personnel with essential knowledge and practical skills in handling emergencies, underscores the institution’s dedication to creating a safe and prepared environment for its students, staff, and faculty.
The seminar was structured to cover both theoretical and hands-on training, enabling participants to gain a thorough understanding of emergency response measures. Topics included evacuation protocols, fire suppression techniques with the proper use of fire extinguishing apparatus, and first aid procedures. The fire safety module, led by experienced personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection, focused on handling various fire scenarios and the appropriate use of firefighting equipment. This session also provided insights into fire prevention techniques, ensuring participants are aware of both proactive and reactive measures.
Following the seminar, faculty and employees took part in a fire and earthquake drill, simulating real-life scenarios to practice the skills and protocols discussed. The drill included a full-campus evacuation and assembly in designated safe zones, giving participants an opportunity to experience an emergency evacuation in real time. The drill was coordinated to test the campus’s safety systems, communication channels, and designated response roles among faculty and staff.
UBLC administrators have expressed their commitment to regular training and preparedness drills. As one administrator noted, “It is crucial for our community to be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to respond effectively in emergency situations. By prioritizing these drills and seminars, we are not only enhancing campus safety but also fostering a culture of preparedness and resilience.”
The seminar and drill concluded with a debriefing session, where participants shared feedback and discussed potential areas for improvement. This collaborative approach ensures that future drills are even more effective, incorporating the learnings from each session.
UBLC’s fire and earthquake preparedness initiative reflects the university’s proactive stance on safety and its dedication to ensuring that all members of its community are well-prepared to handle emergencies. By continuously investing in such training, UBLC aims to provide a secure and resilient environment, capable of responding effectively to any disaster.
