Faculty members from the Science Department of both the University of Batangas – Batangas City (UBBC) and UB Lipa City (UBLC) campuses, spanning Grade School to College levels, actively participated in a seminar-workshop titled “Teaching Science Beyond the Classroom Through PSC Exhibit-Based Lessons and Lab in a Box.” The event was held on May 21, 2025, at the 2nd Floor of the Gov. Vicente A. Mayo Corporate Center.
The session was facilitated by Professor Corazon S. Salumbides, a retired Physics and Chemistry teacher from Jefferson Union High School in Daly City, California. With her rich experience in science education and curriculum development, Professor Salumbides shared insightful strategies and hands-on approaches designed to bring science lessons to life. Her presentation emphasized making science more engaging, interactive, and experiential for learners of all ages.
The workshop introduced participants to the concept of PSC (Philippine Science Centrum) Exhibit-Based Lessons and the use of “Lab in a Box” kits—tools that aim to strengthen science literacy by promoting inquiry-based learning and real-world application of scientific concepts..
This professional development activity was made possible through a meaningful partnership with the Philippine Foundation for Science and Technology (PFST), an organization dedicated to advancing science and technology education in the Philippines.
The University of Batangas commends its Science Department faculty for their continued commitment to educational innovation and excellence. Initiatives such as this underscore the university’s mission to equip educators with the tools and training needed to foster curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking in today’s learners.
