Six University of Batangas (UB) leaders and educators advanced globalized learning strategies at the 1st International Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) Conference at Bravo Tanauan Hotel on June 2, 2026.
La Consolacion College of Tanauan and Biñan, alongside the University of Bristol, London, hosted the summit. Academic stakeholders gathered under the banner: “COIL Transformative Global Learning: Developing Collaborative Global Mindset in Philippine Higher Education.”
Dr. Carl Ivan B. Villanueva, Director of UB Distance Education, spearheaded the university’s delegation. Learner and Faculty Support Head Ethan Jon Joshua B. Ramos, Grade School Principal Jonathan Ramirez, and UBLC High School Assistant Principal Edmund Caraos joined him to map out cross-border curricula integration.
Maria Cristhel Ledesma, National Service Training Program (NSTP) Coordinator, and Dr. Kenneth Camaclang of the Psychology Department also participated. They analyzed how virtual exchange models enhance intercultural empathy and mental health support across diverse learner networks.
Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Region IV-A Regional Director Dr. Rogelio T. Galera Jr. delivered the keynote address, focusing on internationalization pathways. Dr. Christine Nabor Ferrer, Director of the CHED International Affairs Staff (CHED-IAS), shared strategies for building sustainable academic alliances.
This internationalization push advances a trio of United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals. The curriculum overhaul directly meets Target 4.7 by embedding global citizenship concepts into local classrooms, which evaluators measure via Indicator 4.7.1. By offering identical cross-border experiences to every student digitally, the program fulfills Target 10.2 and tracks economic inclusion under Indicator 10.2.1. Finally, this cross-continental academic alliance achieves Target 17.16 by establishing a multi-stakeholder framework for knowledge sharing, which conforms to Indicator 17.16.1.
