On Wednesday, April 26, 2023, the University of Batangas (UB) Elementary Department hosted a storytelling activity and puppet show for Grade 3 and 4 pupils at the UB Elementary Learning Resource Center (UB LRC).

The activity, organized by the UB LRC with participation from the College of Education, aims to foster creativity and imagination among its pupils through storytelling and puppetry.

The event featured Ms. Yna S. Reyes, a renowned author of several children’s books. She allowed students to experience her expertise in weaving tales and adventures, especially in her book, “Roar.”

“Roar” is a retelling of the story of Daniel in the Bible and how he prayed when he was thrown into a Lion’s Den. It is aligned with this month’s theme, “Faith in God,” which also happens to be one of the university’s core values.

Moreover, Ms. Yna encouraged students to read books and enjoy reading stories in the Bible to learn how God works. “When they read a book, they also develop empathy, feel for the character and learn how to handle different problems and challenges,” she added.

After the storytelling activity, the students witnessed a puppet show entitled “Kayla’s Routine.” It is an original story of Ms. Katherine Nicole Lontoc, a 3rd Year BS Education student, which aims to teach students to be grateful for the blessings they receive from God every day.

The event was well-received by the pupils, who were thrilled to participate in the storytelling and puppet show. Huygens Gleam Rays L. Tendero, a Grade 4 student, said that the University of Batangas provides various opportunities to learn and explore different avenues for personal and academic growth. “Makakatulong po ang mga ganitong activities sa amin at it will help us to learn on our values,” shared Ms. Tendero.
