The University of Batangas (UB) Computer Engineering (CE) Department held a one-day seminar titled “What’s ‘After’ Like?: Drawing Insights From Alumni” on February 27, 2025, at MMC2 D Building, 5th Floor.

The event gathered CPE students, faculty members, and alumni for an engaging discussion that explored life beyond graduation, workplace realities, and lessons from professional experience.

The seminar aimed to prepare current CPE students for the transition from academic life to the engineering industry. By inviting alumni as guest speakers, the activity created a meaningful space for sharing insights about career paths, industry expectations, and the evolving roles of computer engineers. The event also sought to bridge the gap between academia and industry, helping students understand how theoretical knowledge translates into practical application.

Two alumni from the CPE program served as guest speakers, each offering unique perspectives from their professional journeys. The first speaker discussed core CPE roles and emerging fields in the discipline, drawing from his own experiences to illustrate the growing opportunities for computer engineers in various industries. The second speaker shared his insights as a Quality Assurance (QA) professional, describing his day-to-day responsibilities and the importance of precision, teamwork, and adaptability in the workplace.

Between sessions, the organizers facilitated interactive activities such as interviews and Q&A portions that encouraged students to ask about on-the-job training (OJT), work ethics, and technical competencies. The discussions promoted confidence and curiosity among attendees, highlighting how continuous learning and adaptability are essential traits in the field of engineering.

The seminar concluded with a certificate and token presentation to the guest speakers, followed by closing remarks from the adviser, who commended the officers and students for organizing a successful and insightful event.

Through this initiative, the CPE Department effectively met its objectives of fostering networking, mentorship, and practical learning. The event emphasized the importance of alumni engagement in shaping future professionals and underscored the University of Batangas’ commitment to SDG 4: Quality Education, particularly in promoting lifelong learning and industry readiness.

The “What’s ‘After’ Like?” seminar not only provided valuable career insights but also motivated CPE students to pursue excellence beyond the university walls—equipped with knowledge, determination, and the guidance of those who once walked the same path.
