The Batangas Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office hosted the inaugural Consultative Meeting of the Multimedia Sector on May 13, 2026, electing faculty members from the University of Batangas (UB) College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) to key leadership roles. This development establishes a critical bridge between academic expertise and public cultural governance, ensuring that professional educators directly shape the preservation and promotion of local heritage through modern media channels.
During the assembly, Dr. Mary Grace V. Delgado, Department Head of Multimedia Communications at UB, was elected as the Sectoral Head of the Batangas Culture and Arts Council under the Multimedia Sector. The delegation also elected Mr. Norvine M. Quinag, MACM, a faculty member of the Multimedia Communications department, as the Sectoral Secretary for the same division.
These appointments advance United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities. Specifically, the leadership of Dr. Delgado and Mr. Quinag directly addresses Target 11.4, which demands strengthened efforts to protect and safeguard the world’s cultural and natural heritage. By steering the province’s multimedia sector, the UB faculty will leverage digital storytelling, broadcasting, and creative media to document and preserve Batangueño culture.
The election also aligns with UN-related frameworks for SDG Localization, which emphasize that local actors must drive cultural development to achieve broader socioeconomic resilience. This initiative strengthens SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth by supporting Target 8.9, which promotes sustainable tourism that showcases local culture and products. Through strategic multimedia campaigns, the new council leaders will boost the provincial creative economy and empower local media practitioners.
