The University of Batangas (UB) Bachelor of Science in Legal Management (LegMa) and Bachelor of Science in Political Science (BS PolSci) organized a Voters Education Seminar for College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) students to prepare them for the upcoming 2025 National, Local, Barangay, and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.

The event, spearheaded by the Association of Legal Management Majors (ALMMa) and the Political Science Circle (PSC), aimed to highlight voting rights and emphasize active voter participation. The organizers underscored the critical need for an informed electorate to understand the nature of government positions and to renew the basic constitutional tenet that a public office is a public trust.

Two legal experts served as resource speakers, providing insights on the legal and constitutional aspects of suffrage.

Atty. Maria Melinda Gainza, the first speaker, put an emphasis on the individual nature of the right of suffrage. She defined it as a constitutional right for every person of legal age and stressed its importance when selecting individuals for public office.

The second speaker, Atty. Niña Genoveva Dueñas-Dimaculangan, discussed the fundamental characteristics, morals, and principles necessary for candidates. She also detailed the specific powers and responsibilities of the public offices electable in the upcoming 2025 elections.

Students who attended the seminar gained valuable insights into the power of their vote and the importance of active, informed citizenship within the Philippine socio-political landscape.
