The University of Batangas (UB) 3rd Year Bachelor of Arts in Communication (AB COMM) students, in collaboration with the Young Communicators’ Guild (YCG), launched Your COMMpanion: ThinkTalk in April 2024 to provide contextual understanding in communication and social media interaction.

“Your COMMpanion: ThinkTalk” centered on the idea that words lose their true meaning when stripped of context – a common challenge in today’s fast-paced digital exchanges. The project sought to educate audiences about interpreting language within its proper frame, encouraging responsible communication and ethical media use.

Batch Marahuyo (3rd Year AB COMM students) spearheaded the project, featuring a series of multimedia releases titled Your COMMpanion in Understanding Gen Z’s Maboka-bulary. The team creatively used iconic film reenactments to illustrate how context changes meaning. Among these were scenes inspired by Heneral Luna (teaser), Barcelona: A Love Untold (explaining “Relapse”), and 100 Tula Para Kay Stella (featuring “Back Burner”). Each episode offered a relatable and engaging approach to defining and clarifying commonly misused terms among Gen Z audiences.

The initiative aligned with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education, as it promoted language and media literacy through accessible, student-led learning. By integrating creativity and education, the campaign empowered students and audiences alike to think critically about words, understand context, and engage more meaningfully in digital communication.

“Your COMMpanion: ThinkTalk” can continue to evolve as a legacy project, and can be passed on to succeeding batches of AB Communication students. Through this initiative, the Young Communicators’ Guild has sustained its mission of nurturing responsible communicators who value clarity, empathy, and critical awareness in every conversation.
