University of Batangas Lipa City (UBLC) marked a significant spiritual milestone as the sacred relic of Padre Jesus Nazareno visited the campus on April 22, 2026, through the initiative of the IGNIS Campus Ministry, offering the UBian community a rare opportunity for prayer, reflection, and veneration.

The visit formed part of the pastoral activities of the Archdiocese of Lipa, anchored on the theme “Walk with Jesus,” which was thoughtfully crafted by Sto. Niño Parish of Marawoy. The presence of the sacred image in the Archdiocese became possible after the parish formally requested its visitation from the Minor Basilica and National Shrine of Jesus Nazareno in Quiapo, Manila City, the home of one of the most revered Catholic devotions in the Philippines. Notably, the image brought to UBLC is the same revered image enthroned every January at the Quirino Grandstand for the Pahalik rites prior to the historic Traslacion procession.

Originally scheduled for parish-centered activities, the visit to the university occurred through an unexpected yet meaningful adjustment in the itinerary. A change in plans made just a day before the scheduled events allowed the sacred image to be brought first to the UBLC campus for preparation before proceeding to Sto. Niño Parish. This providential development enabled students, faculty members, administrators, employees, and campus ministry volunteers to encounter the image in a more solemn and personal setting.

Based on observations of the IGNIS Campus Ministry, approximately sixty individuals participated in the campus veneration, including the parish priest of Sto. Niño Parish, university administrators led by the University President, faculty members, personnel, and students. Parish estimates further noted that around 200 to 300 devotees gathered outside the university grounds to join the welcoming procession, while nearly a thousand faithful later participated in the parish’s welcome rites and solemn Eucharistic celebration.

Beyond the ceremonial aspect, the visitation underscored the enduring significance of devotion to Jesus Nazareno, a spiritual tradition deeply rooted in Filipino Catholic faith. The image of Christ carrying the Cross continues to resonate strongly among devotees, symbolizing perseverance, sacrifice, and hope amid life’s struggles.

In its official reflection, the IGNIS Campus Ministry emphasized the deeper meaning of the encounter for the UBian community:

“The image of Jesus Nazareno remains a striking symbol of faith deeply rooted in Filipino spirituality. Enriched by a long history of miracles, testimonies of hope, and countless blessings, this devotion continues to inspire unwavering faith among the faithful. More than its historical and cultural significance, Christ carrying the Cross mirrors the lived realities of many Filipinos. In the Nazareno, devotees recognize a Savior who shares in their suffering, reminding them that they are never alone in their burdens.”

The ministry further affirmed that the visit served as a spiritual invitation for reflection and renewal, calling the community to remain steadfast in faith despite trials and uncertainties. The Cross, they noted, stands not as a symbol of defeat but as a sign of redemption, grace, and enduring hope.

Through prayerful participation and collective devotion, the historic visit of the sacred relic strengthened the spiritual life of the university and reinforced UBLC’s commitment to nurturing faith formation alongside academic excellence. The encounter ultimately embodied the message of the theme “Walk with Jesus,” encouraging the UBian community to continue journeying with Christ in faith, service, and hope.
