Batangas, Philippines — The Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers – University of Batangas Student Chapter (PICE-UBSC) successfully collaborated with PICE Batangas on September 20, 2024, by providing essential volunteer support for the “Golf for a Cause” event. This initiative seamlessly integrated professional and student engineers in a unified act of community service.

Operating under the theme “Volunteer for a Cause,” PICE-UBSC members dedicated their time to ensure the event’s smooth execution. Their participation underscored the chapter’s profound commitment to civic duty, community engagement, and the cultivation of professional ethics among aspiring engineers.

The activity was instrumental in promoting the philanthropic goals of PICE Batangas, allowing student volunteers to gain hands-on experience in community-focused projects. This engagement provided a crucial opportunity for students to build professional relationships with licensed civil engineers, moving their learning beyond theoretical classroom knowledge.

Under the guidance of PICE-UBSC Adviser Engr. Neil Graham Bhel Garcia, the student chapter efficiently managed volunteer organization, readiness, logistics, and communication. Volunteers arrived early on the event day to handle diverse responsibilities, including registration, ushering, logistics, and material distribution. Their commitment and professionalism contributed significantly to the seamless flow of the event and the positive accommodation of all participants and guests.

The successful conclusion of the “Golf for a Cause” marks another high point in the productive collaboration between PICE Batangas and its student chapter. The students’ involvement vividly demonstrated the core values of volunteerism, teamwork, and service—qualities indispensable to both community service and the engineering profession.

PICE-UBSC members reflected on the experience as both meaningful and inspiring, noting how it allowed them to apply their organizational skills and gain invaluable real-world exposure. The event also highlighted the expanding role of civil engineers as key contributors to social development and community upliftment, beyond their traditional role as infrastructure builders.

Looking ahead, organizers recommended incorporating comprehensive pre-event orientations to enhance volunteer preparation and further strengthen the partnership between the professional and student chapters. Suggestions were also made to recognize volunteers with certificates or tokens of appreciation to sustain enthusiasm for future civic engagements.

Through its dedicated participation in “Golf for a Cause,” PICE-UBSC powerfully reaffirmed its dual commitment to professional excellence and social responsibility, embodying the belief that civil engineers are fundamentally engaged in building stronger, more compassionate communities.
