The Senior High School Department of the University of Batangas Lipa City successfully hosted an interfaith symposium titled “Sanctity of Life: What Is Life After Death?”, bringing together students and religious representatives for an academic and values-centered dialogue on faith, human existence, and the concept of the afterlife.
Held for Grade 11 Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) students, along with Grade 12 Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM) learners, the symposium gathered distinguished representatives from four different religions who shared profound perspectives rooted in their respective faith traditions. The activity provided students with an opportunity to explore varying interpretations of life, death, and spiritual continuity through informed discussion and respectful exchange of ideas.
The initiative aimed to deepen students’ understanding of religious diversity while fostering critical thinking, empathy, and intercultural awareness. Through meaningful dialogue and reflection, participants gained a broader appreciation of how beliefs shape human values, ethical decisions, and social relationships. The symposium promoted unity, mutual respect, and understanding among different faith communities essential competencies for responsible global citizenship.
Aligned with the Senior High School curriculum, the symposium reinforced learning outcomes from Media and Information Literacy, Introduction to World Religions and Belief Systems, Introduction to the Philosophy of the Human Person, University of Batangas Core Values 1, and Disciplines and Ideas in the Applied Social Sciences. By connecting academic concepts with real-world perspectives, the activity strengthened students’ ability to analyze belief systems, engage in informed discourse, and develop reflective insights about human existence.
