The University of Batangas Lipa City (UBLC) High School Department successfully staged the Theater Play Culminating Activity of Grade 12 students enrolled in the Contemporary Philippine Arts from the Regions (CPAR) subject, showcasing artistic creativity, cultural appreciation, and collaborative learning through live performances. Held as part of the Senior High School academic requirements, the activity gathered students, faculty members, and invited guests in a celebration of theater arts that highlighted students’ competencies in acting, storytelling, and stage production.
The culminating activity featured creative theatrical interpretations of various literary works, allowing students to translate classroom learning into performance-based expression. Through carefully prepared scripts, stage design, costumes, and coordinated production elements, the performances demonstrated how different art forms converge in theater, emphasizing both artistic discipline and teamwork. The event provided Grade 12 learners with a platform to apply their understanding of contemporary Philippine arts while strengthening confidence, communication skills, and creative expression.
Aligned with the High School Department’s Community Extension Program, the initiative extended its impact beyond the campus by inviting young learners from Pangao Day Care Center and Bulacnin Elementary School to watch the performances. The presence of the visiting pupils transformed the event into a meaningful outreach activity, fostering cultural appreciation among younger audiences while allowing senior high school students to share art as a tool for education, inspiration, and community engagement.
The activity formed part of the CPAR curriculum, a core Senior High School subject that explores diverse artistic expressions produced by contemporary Filipino artists from different regions of the Philippines from the 1960s to the present. The subject examines regional traditions, indigenous materials, and artistic techniques such as weaving, carving, and performing arts, alongside contemporary practices in painting, sculpture, music, dance, theater, literature, film, and architecture. By staging a theater production, students synthesized these concepts into an experiential learning process that connected heritage, creativity, and modern artistic practice.
Through this culminating activity, UBLC reinforced its commitment to United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education, promoting inclusive, equitable, and holistic learning opportunities that develop both academic competence and creative potential. The integration of arts education and community outreach highlighted the university’s dedication to nurturing culturally aware learners who recognize the role of the arts in social development and lifelong learning.
The Theater Play Culminating Activity marked the academic achievement of Grade 12 students and reflected the UBLC High School Department’s mission of providing transformative education grounded in creativity, collaboration, and community involvement. By merging performance, cultural education, and social responsibility, the initiative demonstrated how arts-based learning can cultivate well-rounded individuals prepared to contribute meaningfully to society.
