The Department of Energy (DOE) conducted a comprehensive briefing on the downstream oil and natural gas industry on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at the University of Batangas (UB) Auditorium.

The event, aimed at future professionals, sought to strengthen awareness of the energy sector among students, particularly aspiring civil engineers.

The briefing was organized through a collaboration between the DOE, the UB College of Engineering, and the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers – UB Student Chapter (PICE-UBSC).

The primary goal was to educate students on the fundamental operations, challenges, and innovations within the Philippine energy landscape. It also aimed to highlight the role of engineers in energy-related infrastructure and showcase potential career opportunities in the industry.

Resource speakers from the DOE presented in-depth discussions on the structure and importance of the downstream oil sector and the development of natural gas in the Philippines, covering relevant data and policies.

The presentations were followed by a question-and-answer segment where students actively engaged the speakers.

Organizers stated the briefing successfully expanded the students’ knowledge of the energy sector by connecting technical engineering concepts with real-world national development challenges.
