The University of Batangas (UB) College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) conducted a debate seminar to enhance students’ skills in argumentation, logic, and persuasive communication On April 8, 2024 at the UB Auditorium.
Dr. Angelica V. Dimaculangan, a faculty member and adviser of the Sui Generis Brahman Debate Society, guided them through an expert seminar on the Oxford-Oregon Debate Format, empowering them to build confidence and master the tools of critical inquiry. Dr. Dimaculangan dove deep into the debate structure, emphasizing the power of clear arguments, evidence-based reasoning, and professional decorum. She equipped participants with proven techniques for constructing unshakeable cases, effectively refuting opposing arguments, and delivering speeches with persuasive flair.
The seminar quickly moved from theory to action. Students participated in dynamic, interactive activities, practicing their new debating skills in a supportive and encouraging environment. This hands-on experience allowed them to actively enhance their ability to think on their feet, organize ideas coherently, and engage in respectful intellectual sparring – all essential competencies for academic success and real-world civic engagement.
This powerful seminar successfully armed students with vital skills in reasoning and public speaking, fostering a spirit of intellectual curiosity. The UB-CAS organized this event to uphold its commitment to holistic education and SDG 4: Quality Education. It serves as another transformative learning experience that encourages lifelong learning and cultivates future leaders through the power of effective communication.
