Four University of Batangas (UB) Brahmans won bronze medals at the National Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) 2026 championship tournament of Taekwondo, which concluded May 15, 2026.

Lendard Macatangay, Juliana Liwanag, Akisha Natanauan, and Jorren Salazar captured third-place honors in the intensive Kyorugi (sparring) events. The multi-day national tournament ran from May 8 to May 15, 2026, gathering top-tier student-athletes across the country at sports venues throughout Bacolod City.

The collective podium finish establishes UB as a major force in regional collegiate sports development. By securing multiple national medals, these athletes demonstrate how systematic training programs elevate provincial talent to compete against heavily funded varsity programs from the national capital region, thereby boosting the institutional sports profile of the university.

This athletic achievement advances United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Well-Being. The intense preparation and tournament participation support SDG Target 3.4, which promotes physical health and mental well-being, while directly moving metrics for Indicator 3.4.1 by fostering lifelong healthy habits that prevent non-communicable illnesses.

Locally, the university’s sports program addresses the rising trend of teenage physical inactivity and related lifestyle diseases within the CALABARZOn region. The success of these four athletes gives the local youth relatable role models who illustrate how disciplined sports programs promote physical resilience and mental fortitude.

Simultaneously, the program aligns with SDG 4: Quality Education by reinforcing Target 4.4, which focuses on youth development and technical skill acquisition. The intensive training regimen equips student-athletes with transferable behavioral skills, directly supporting Indicator 4.4.1 by tracking the development of specialized competencies that improve future workplace collaboration and leadership.
