Organized by the Math Olympiads Training League Incorporated (MOTLI), the competition held on March 8, 2026, challenged the analytical and problem-solving skills of students across the country.

The UB delegation demonstrated exceptional mastery of mathematical concepts, bringing home a collective tally of five gold, three silver, and three bronze awards, alongside a merit distinction.

Five standout students clinched the prestigious Gold Award, placing them among the top tier of competitors in their respective grade levels. These scholars exhibited superior logical reasoning and mathematical precision: Derick Rein E. Macalinao (Grade 7 – Copernicus), Marlyn Pearl E. Ilagan (Grade 7 – Copernicus), Shawqi Yousef A. Evangelista (Grade 9 – Avogadro), Shiekha Ayesha J. Cago (Grade 10 – Archimedes), and Keziah Abigail M. Adora (Grade 10 – Catapang).

The university also celebrated the success of its Silver Awardees, who displayed high-level proficiency in the rigorous examination. These winners include Cari Iana Meris C. Marasigan (Grade 7 – Huygens), Zuriel Reyn B. Cruzat (Grade 8 – Aristotle), and Reizo Mikael L. Adorable (Grade 9 – Avogadro).

Furthermore, the following students earned Bronze Awards for their impressive performance: Harvey Gabriel C. Mendoza (Grade 8 – Fleming), Kate Louise F. Aloria (Grade 8 – Fleming), and Arielle P. Subol (Grade 8 – Aristotle). Rounding out the university’s success, Donna Alexa I. Alolod (Grade 8 – Aristotle) received a Merit Award for her commendable output in the competition.

This victory reaffirms UB’s commitment to academic excellence and its role in nurturing competitive young minds. By participating in international-standard competitions like PhIMO, the JHS Department continues to provide students with platforms to test their skills against global benchmarks, preparing them for the complexities of higher education and future professional fields.

UB aligns these academic triumphs with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), emphasizing the importance of intellectual growth in sustainable development.

These mathematical milestones underscore the university’s active contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically through the lens of human resource development. By producing national-level awardees in rigorous disciplines, the institution champions SDG 4: Quality Education, effectively bridging the gap between classroom theory and international competency. Furthermore, the success of these mathletes advances SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure. By sharpening the analytical grit and logical foundations of its Junior High School students, the university secures the intellectual pipeline necessary to lead future technological breakthroughs and industrial innovation within the national landscape.

The University of Batangas (UB) Junior High School (JHS) Department showcased its mathematical prowess as 12 student-mathletes secured top honors in the Philippine International Mathematical Olympiad (PhIMO) 2026 Heat Round.
