(ACCI) in Makati City on October 4, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The winning team \u2013 composed of 4th Year BSCE students Jack Hermidilla, Jon Alecks Norcio, and Kharel Eiana Dela Roca \u2013 proved their mettle after a month of intensive preparation using the university\u2019s seismic simulator, expert consultations, and practical testing of engineering theories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Along with them in the competition were other well-known universities. The UB team stood firm and upheld the institution\u2019s reputation as a \u201chome of champions\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When asked what set them apart, the team members shared:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cEffective communication,\u201d for Ms. Dela Roca.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cTeamwork,\u201d Mr. Hermidilla said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cApplication of the progressive building method,\u201d Mr. Norcio specified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reflecting on their win, Ms. Dela Roca highlighted how the competition reinforced their mission as future engineers, \u201cThe disaster underscored the urgent need to innovate and design earthquake-resistant structures.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The victory did not come easy.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe moment before we were announced as champion was a roller coaster ride,\u201d Mr. Norcio recalled, to which Mr. Hermidilla added, \u201cThere were some technical issues with the machine during testing, which caused additional stress on our structure. We thought it would not last, but it endured until the end \u2013 leading us to victory.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Their coach, Engr. SiddArtha Valle, Faculty Member of Civil Engineering and Head of Engineering and Technology Research &amp; Development Office, commended their teamwork and dedication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNone of them were forced to join; they volunteered because they truly wanted to challenge themselves and represent our program,\u201d Engr. Valle shared. She added, \u201cWhen one member, Jon, accidentally injured his finger two hours into construction, the others, Jack and Kharel, adjusted their tasks to stay on track. After receiving first aid, Jon insisted on returning to help the team finish the model within the time limit.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Engr. Valle further praised their composure under pressure. \u201cEven with imperfect conditions, they kept their focus and supported one another.
