To further empower women: UB, SIBC adjoins in extending help to the community

University of Batangas- Batangas City Campus (UBBC) ties up with Soroptimist International Batangas Premier (SIBP) in bestowing a scholarship grant to one beneficiary as an abidance to the mission of Soroptimist International (SI) which focuses on improving the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment, July 7.

SIBP has been teaming up with different colleges and universities in the province in helping women pursue their dreams. This year, as a continuance of its vision of being a center of excellence and its faithful commitment in community development, University of Batangas (UB) extended a helping hand to Rochelle Villaflores, who will be studying BS Education in the forthcoming academic year, by giving her a scholarship grant.

Villaflores, an aspiring educator and a mother of a 5-year old girl, finished primary education in a regular school and continued her studies with the aid of Alternative Learning System (ALS) to finish high school. However, she has shown excellence after winning various competitions organized by SI in Valenzuela for the Nationals and Mexico for the International competition, wherein she was awarded 5,000 dollars in the logical level and 10,000 dollars in the federal level proving her worth for the scholarship program.

Soroptimist International (SI) is a global women’s organization with more than 80,000 volunteers in about 120 countries and territories giving support to achieve their community-based and global projects benefiting women and girls. Last year, SI in the Philippines celebrated their 50th anniversary with a local chapter in Batangas, SIBP, established in 2013.
